In 1965 The U.S. Post Office Department began releasing a new definitive stamp series titled Prominent Americans. This stamp series would continue production for near 20 years and feature 25 different great contributors to the nation. In 1971, the Post Office Department became known as the United States Postal Service (U.S.P.S.). This Mint, Never Hinged US Stamp Set includes the newly adopted and promoted USPS emblem stamp and the Prominent Americans stamps issued between 1971 and 1974.
