This pair of 1924 U.S. 10¢ James Monroe stamps is referred to as a joint line pair in stamp collecting terminology. A Joint Line is the distinctive colored line appearing between the two stamps. These lines occurred during the rotary press postage stamp printing process when ink would gather between the edges of printing plates. This stamp pair is in Mint / Never Hinged condition.
James Monroe was the 5th President of the United States, serving from 1817 – 1825. President Monroe is probably most remembered for his Monroe Doctrine. It firmly declared the opposition of the U.S. to any foreign government attempting to interfere with independent states within North and South America.
