2017 marked the 40th year of friendly relations between the nations of Israel and Portugal. The two countries jointly issued this Dolphin Research stamp to celebrate their continued friendship. Recently Israel and Portugal have been studying the effects and benefits of coastal dolphins, like the Bottlenose Dolphin depicted on the stamp.
