Description
These 2 1993 People’s Republic of China Longmen Grottoes Souvenir Sheets each show a photograph of the famed Buddhist statues in and around a series of caves lining the shores of the Yi River. There are over 100,000 such sculptures within the half mile stretch of shoreline, most of which are over 1,000 years old. The Longmen Grottoes became an official World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the year 2000.
Each Souvenir Stamp Sheet has one $5 postage stamp. The first, #2462A is overprinted in Gold. The second, #2462B is overprinted in Silver.
